Black Bean Timber Veneer - Black Bean (Castanospermum austral) is a tall tree reaching a height of 40m. It can be found in rainforests along Australia's East Coast ranging from New South Wales to Far North Queensland. The heartwood colour ranges from dark brown to chocolate shades, deepening to almost black. It is sometimes streaked with lighter coloured bands. The grain is usually straight but can be wavy or interlocked. This results in a deep, decorative look. Leatherwood Timber Veneer - Leatherwood (Eucryphia lucida) trees are found as an understory tree endemic to Tasmania. They can be found in the wetter valleys and rugged western mountain regions where there is a high rainfall. Mostly growing to a height of 15m, but they can reach 30m. Qld Maple Timber Veneer - Queensland Maple (Flindersia brayleyana) is found in the northern Queensland rainforests between Townsville and the Windsor Tableland. The lustrous sheen of the pink to brownish-pink heartwood colour makes for a distinctive tree. The sapwood is a narrow band of white to pale grey. It has a unique grain that is sometimes interlocked and often wavy or curly. It can also exhibit water wave, rib and birdseye figures. Qld Silver Ash Veneer - Queensland Silver Ash (Flindersia bourjotiana) is found mainly in the rainforest areas of northern Queensland. Its timber is considered rare. It is a medium sized tree and grows to around 35m in height and up to .8m in diameter. Both the heartwood and sapwood of Qld Silver Ash timber veneer are silver-white to pale yellow in colour and there is very little distinction between the two. Blackheart Sassafras Timber Veneer - Sassafras (Atherosperma moschatum) grows as an understory tree in the rainforests of Tasmania. Sassafras can also be found in rainforests in Victoria and New South Wales. It can grow to a height of 45m and around 1m in diameter. The unusual dark streaks that often run through the heart of its golden-grey wood, give Blackheart Sassafras it's name. This staining is caused by naturally occurring wood funghi which produce a range of contrasting brown to black colours. Spotted Gum Timber Veneer - Spotted Gum (Eucalyptus maculata) is the common name for four species which grow along the east coast of Australia. The trees can grow up to 50 metres in height and up to 1.4 metres in diameter. With heartwood colour ranging from light brown through to dark red-brown hues. Its sapwood is usually white to light brown in colour. The grain can be straight, interlocked or wavy. It is not part of the Myrtle family and is often referred to as Tasmanian Myrtle. As a slow growing tree it can reach a maximum height of 30 to 40 metres. Tasmanian Oak Timber Veneer – Tasmanian Oak refers to the hardwood produced by three trees (Eucalyptus regnans, Eucalyptus obliqua and Eucalyptus delegatensis) when it is sourced from the Australian state of Tasmania. Despite the common name 'oak', none of the species are in the Oak genus (Quercus). When sourced from Victoria, the wood of (Eucalyptus regnans and Eucalyptus delegatensis) is called Victorian Ash. The species are also widely known by their common names. Eucalyptus obliqua is known as Stringybark or Messmate. Eucalyptus regnans is known as Mountain Ash. Tiger Myrtle Timber Veneer – Myrtle (Nothofagus cunninghamii) is an evergreen tree growing in temperate rainforests and alpine areas in Tasmania and Victoria. It can grow up to 40m in height and is the dominant tree in Tasmania’s cool temperate rainforests. It is not related to the Myrtle family and is often referred to as Tasmanian Myrtle. Tiger Myrtle is perhaps the rarest of the Myrtle colour decorations. The “tiger stripe” of contrasting dark brown and black is caused by fungal discoloration.
