It can be found in rainforests along Australia's East Coast ranging from New South Wales to Far North Queensland. The heartwood colour ranges from dark brown to chocolate shades, deepening to almost black. It is sometimes streaked with lighter coloured bands. The grain is usually straight but can be wavy or interlocked. This results in a deep, decorative look. Both the heartwood and sapwood of Qld Silver Ash timber veneer are silver-white to pale yellow in colour and there is very little distinction between the two. It is not part of the Myrtle family and is often referred to as Tasmanian Myrtle. As a slow growing tree it can reach a maximum height of 30 to 40 metres.
