Black Bean Timber Veneer

Black Bean Timber Veneer – Black Bean (Castanospermum austral) is a tall tree reaching a height of 40m.  It can be found in rainforests along Australia’s East Coast ranging from New South Wales to Far North Queensland.  The heartwood colour ranges from dark brown to chocolate shades, deepening to almost black.  It is sometimes streaked with lighter coloured bands.  The grain is usually straight but can be wavy or interlocked.  This results in a deep, decorative look.  It also has an attractive striped figure when quarter cut.

Black Bean timber veneer is quite valuable as the Black Bean tree’s habitat is along streams and river banks.  These areas technically cannot be logged making it difficult to source.
