Birch Timber Veneer

Birch Timber Veneer – Birch (Betula) is a native of Europe, Northern America and Northern Asia.  It is a common tree, growing to around 18-21m in height and up to 1m in diameter.  It is pale in colour with a heartwood ranging from cream to pale brown.  The grain is usually straight and is fine textured and lustrous.  Sometimes there are grain deviations which cause flame and curly figure.  Another characteristic feature of birch is “spalting” caused by certain fungi. It creates some interesting patterns in the wood grain and adds to the aesthetic value of the wood.

Birch timber veneer is highly prized for panelling and marquetry.

Also known as European Birch and White Birch.
