Makore Timber Veneer

Makore Timber Veneer – Makore (Tieghemella heckelii) is native to the rainforests of West Africa.  It can be found in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, the Ivory Coast, Ghana and Liberia.  The tree can grow to a height of 60m with a trunk diameter of up to 3m.

Makore timber veneer has a magnificent appearance.   It is best known for its figure types –  block mottle figure, crotch, broken stripe, curly and a very tight fiddleback.  It is a naturally lustrous wood which helps exaggerate the various figure types.

The heartwood colour is a pinkish to reddish-brown with occasional purple streaks. The sapwood is clearly demarcated from the heart. It is a creamy white colour and can be up to 3 inches wide. Makore has a fine texture and the grain is usually very straight.

Also known as African Cherry or Cherry Mahogany
