The heartwood colour of Pear Wood is pinkish–brown.  The sapwood is slightly paler but there is not usually much distinction from the heartwood.  Pear Wood is sometimes dyed black to be used as an Ebony substitute. It has a very fine and even texture.

Pear Wood timber veneer is commonly used in marquetry, inlay, furniture and cabinet making.  The timber is also sought after for musical instruments.
